In 2009 Career Connections RMIT has undertaken an environmental
scan on education and employment services available to young people
with a disability in the Whittlesea, Nillumbik and Darebin
areas.
The aim of disability engagement is to develop effective
programs and communication which meet the needs of schools and
young people with a disability. By forging partnerships, students
can make strong connections with the job network before leaving
school, making the transition from school to work simpler and less
stressful for the young person.
The disability Employment Network (DEN) has a range of providers
(see attached) with strong links to employers who readily meet the
needs of young people with disabilities. They provide ongoing
support and guidance to both the young person and the employer.
Some companies can also engage students in part time work or
traineeships whilst keeping them at school. |
