Career Connections - RMIT & work placement
Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) is an essential part of a
quality vocational education and training (VET) program.
It provides real work place experience - for student's newly
developed vocational and technical skills.
Career Connections and SWL
RMIT Project officers have considerable experience and expertise
in the facilitation of SWL placements for students undertaking VET
in schools.
With the advent of the enlarged VET cluster in 2008 we
urge all schools to ensure that work placement becomes an important
and integral part of all VET courses.
For 2009 the program areas we will facilitate are:
Engineering
Furnishing
Automotive
Community Recreation
Community Services
Information Technology
Business Administration
Hospitality
Other programs if there is a demand from schools
2009 Changes
IN 2009, we intend to
tailor our support more closely to the needs of schools.
For some schools and programs it will mean a continuation of the
processes and procedures used in 2007.
But, for other schools we
will work take a more school-based approach.
This will mean working more closely with VET co-ordinators and
classroom teachers to ascertain the most effective ways of
facilitating work placements for students.

We have a number of resources to support your SWL program:
1. VET Coordinator’s Handbook
2. Student Record Training books for each program
